A wrap-up on the PEA 1 meet last Saturday:

Saturday morning I locked the new rosters into the database and then waited for the meet results. Early season meet, new track, wasn’t expecting any changes to the leaderboards, really. Well. Have you met Winston George and the sprinters. And I forgot the late XC season would have some runners still in very, very good condition.
Jason Robie set a new record for the young facility’s 3000m, posting an 8:54.70, the first sub-9 ever run on this track, with Trainer Mailloux turning in the second. Jason’s time is already No. 4 All-Time and he’s the No. 2 Junior. Trainer set a personal record but finds himself back a slot to No. 8 due to the efforts of Jason just in front of him. And all on December 13th! That’s so early! With Jason’s entry into the Top 10, Jeff Reddy ’16 bumps to No. 11 All-Time.
Thomas Blaszka had an early season heave of 47’ – 10.00” in the shot put, debuting at No. 10 All-Time. Good friend and four time state football champ Matt Folia ’95 drops to No. 11 All-Time.
The 55m had all sorts of speed. Winston George turned in a 6.53 in the finals, an absurdly quick effort this early in the season. In his indoor track career debut Winston shows up at No. 3 All-Time (and a sophomore record), with just Mike Grella ’02 and the very recent Matt Morrison ’25 in front of him. The only thing more ridiculous than that time is that he took second place!
Travis Cavallo got onto the Junior list in a big tie for 3rd. I’m looking forward to some PRs to help me clean up all those hand-timed ties! Also on the ridiculous scale in the 55m: the top four Astros in the trials (adding in Ryson Michaud and Elijah Roberts) would have matched or broken the school record of my time (6.6h), lo these 30 years ago. For some of you . . . that’s your era, too!
In the 300m, Winston George continued his show with a 36.19 clocking. That’s No. 6 All-Time and already a sophomore record, taking over from the sophomore effort of school record holder Jadyn Ruimwijk ’18. On the All-Time list, Winston moves past the legendary names of Zach Cicio ’14 and former pole vault record holder Ed Pomerleau ’00. Ryan Dane ’21 is bumped to No. 11.
There are probably three careers I’d like to get back from the pandemic: Conor Seleny’s outdoor senior year and the combined junior and senior years of Macy Graves ‘21 and Ryan Dane. I’ll let you look up Macy, but by his sophomore year Ryan had already run 37.00 in the 300m and long jumped 21’-9.00”. Damn.
The girls had some flashy performances, too! Skylar Marzolf is turning in some huge sophomore efforts in the shot put. Her 33’-4.00” mark is No. 3 on the sophomore list and already No. 7 All-Time. Skylar moves by Cheryl Donnell amongst others, a former No. 2 All-Timer back in 1999. Kim Gillespie, also a former No. 2 All-Timer but from the 80s, falls to No. 11.
Pinkerton also had some great looking early season times in the 300m (Abby Stienecker, Ella and Emma Kubat, Rylee Robinson), 600m (the ever-present Rzasa and Blake), and the 3000m (Bedard and Marzolf 1-2 . . . that’s *Kali*, of course). And can we get Mollie Wheale into an indoor pentathlon? 9.32 55m HH and 32-7 shot put let’s go.
Wait, there was a pole vault? Delaney Paquin where were YOU? 🙂
